Assault on Blind Channel

Two men were arrested on Tuesday, March 17 after an incident on the Mamquam Blind Channel, Squamish RCMP reported. The two men had a sailboat anchored in the Blind Channel and were warned by another man about unauthorized use of the government dock, according to police.

The two made threats and then assaulted the other man, police said. They then fled back to the anchored boat.

Conservation officers assisted police by taking them by boat to the sailboat to intercept and arrest the suspects.

Injuries in crash

A driver and passenger sustained minor injuries when a southbound vehicle spun out on the wet highway in the Murrin Park area on Monday March 14, police said. Traffic was temporarily reduced to a single lane heading south during the morning commute, causing a back-up for a short time, according to Squamish RCMP.

Dating fraud

A woman was duped out of roughly $3,000 by a man she met through an online dating website. The man conned her into depositing valueless cheques and then making withdrawals from her account, Squamish RCMP said. He eventually convinced her to give him her debit card and PIN, police said. The matter, which was reported to police on Tuesday, March 15, is still being investigated.

Impaired driver

A female driver was given an immediate 90-day roadside driving ban and the vehicle she was driving was impounded for 30 days after she showed signs of impairment and failed a roadside screening test on Wednesday, March 16, RCMP said.

Officers had received a report of a possible impaired driver on Depot Road near Highway 99, and the suspect vehicle was located in the area, police said.

Gas station B&E

The front door was smashed and 26 packs of Canadian Classic cigarettes worth $292.38 were stolen in an overnight break-in at the Petro Canada gas station at 41350 Government Rd. on Sunday, March 20, Squamish RCMP said. The damage to the door totaled $500, police said.

Thefts from vehicles

Three people were arrested after North Vancouver RCMP officers saw three people smashing car windows of two vehicles and stealing items in Lions Bay on Kelvin Grove Way on Wednesday, March 16, police said. The suspects were followed to West Vancouver, where they were stopped and arrested.

North Vancouver RCMP will be completing the report for charges of theft and mischief against the suspects, according to Squamish RCMP.
