Cash stolen
Roughly $1,100 in cash was stolen from a safe during a break-in at a business in the 38900 block of Progress Way on Monday, March 21, according to Squamish RCMP. A rock was thrown through the window on the north side of the business, then the thief forced entry to a back room where the safe was located, police said. A forensic exam was conducted and results are pending.
DUI crash
A driver received a 24-hour driving prohibition on Saturday, March 26 after a single-vehicle crash on Loggers Lane at Highway 99, according to Squamish RCMP. While speaking with the driver, an officer noticed signs of impairment and saw an open bottle of vodka in the vehicle, police reported. The driver then blew a “warn” on the roadside-screening device, according to police.
Stolen truck recovered
Police received a report of an abandoned truck in the 200 block of Kelvin Grove Way in Lions Bay on Wednesday, March 23.
The 2005 Ford F250 King Ranch had been on the street since Monday when a woman parked it and set off the alarm, Squamish RCMP said. The woman was unable to turn off the alarm and told the complainant that her boyfriend forgot to give her the truck’s fob.
The police investigation revealed the truck had been stolen from a resident on Vancouver Island, and the truck’s licence plate also displayed a stolen validation tag from another area, RCMP reported. The truck was towed to the Squamish detachment for further investigation.
Fishing rods taken
Two fishing rods were stolen from a vehicle parked in the 38900 block of Progress Way on Tuesday, March 22, police said. The investigation is on-going.
Bike theft
A Norco 'Site' black bike with blue lettering and trim was stolen from outside a gym in the 38200 block of Cleveland Avenue in the afternoon of Tuesday, March 22, said Squamish RCMP.
Liquor store mischief
Security video at the liquor store on Glenalder Place showed an unidentified man attempting to smash the store’s windows at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 27, according to police. Officers did not find anyone onsite, but two windows at the store were damaged. Police continue to investigate.
