Threats with knife
A woman made verbal threats to the police, wielded a 12" kitchen knife and ran toward officers who drew their pistols and made commands to the woman to drop the knife on Friday, April 8, RCMP reported.
The incident took place at a home on Hensman Road in Upper Squamish, where police officers arrived to ensure compliance with court-ordered conditions for a man under house arrest, RCMP told The Squamish Chief. The man was in breach of conditions and was arrested for the breach as well as for driving a vehicle while prohibited, police said.
The woman was associated to the man and became irate when police arrived. Eventually, the woman complied and she was also arrested, RCMP said. No one was injured in the incident.
Assault with dog leash
A break and enter suspect struck an officer with a dog leash and then fled, according to the Squamish RCMP. The assault occurred Sunday, April 10 after RCMP responded to a report of a break-in at a movie set located at Nexen Beach, police said. A suspect with a dog was seen by security attempting to enter the trailers at the movie set, police said.
An officer located the suspect and attempted to arrest him but he fled into a nearby wooded area. The suspect was not found, but police said they know his identity and plan to pursue the matter.
Gas station B&E
The Shell Gas station on Highway 99 at Laurelwood Road was broken into on Tuesday, April 5, police said. Officers found the front door of the gas station smashed.
A surveillance video shows a suspect wearing a black jacket with a hood, black pants, white gloves, a skull mask, and grey and black skateboard shoes with white sidewalls. The suspect arrived on a mountain bike, smashed the window with a long, dark blunt instrument then entered the store, leaving with a bag of chips and a bottle of pop, police said.
The incident is still under investigation.
Theft from mailboxes
Police received numerous reports of community mailboxes broken into and theft of mail on Wednesday, April 6, Squamish RCMP report. Locations included Strangway Place, the 40100 block of Government Road, the 41000 block of Tantalus Way and the 40800 block of The Crescent, police said.
Canada Post is also looking into the matter and repairing the damaged boxes, according to RCMP.
Theft from vehicle
A wallet was stolen from the glove box of a vehicle that was parked at Garibaldi Park on Thursday, April 7, police said. The car was broken into and the credit cards and cash were taken out of the wallet, Squamish RCMP said.
The victim realized the items were missing upon returning home to Vancouver, according to police. When reporting the cards stolen to the bank, the victim learned that the debit card was used at an ATM in Squamish, police said. The matter is still under investigation.
Purse stolen
A purse was stolen from a vehicle parked at Elfin Lake on Tuesday, April 5, police said. The victim’s credit card was subsequently used fraudulently in Squamish and Surrey, according to RCMP. Police continue to investigate.
Bike theft
A $1,500 black Louis Garneau Sedna touring bike was stolen overnight on Monday, April 4 from outside the Brennan Park Recreation Centre, according to Squamish RCMP. The bike’s lock was cut, police said. The bike has a blue sticker on the top tube, a rack and a gold-coloured water bottle cage. The file is still under investigation.
