Child sees suspect

Squamish RCMP are searching for a suspect after a seven-year old child interrupted a theft at his home on Thursday, April 14. The suspect is described as a Caucasian man in his 30s, 5’11 tall with an athletic build, dark hair and a dark beard. The man was wearing cameo-green shorts and carrying a cameo-green backpack that contained a black and blue, full-faced helmut, according to police.  The suspect apologized to the child, police said, and said he was a neighbour, which wasn’t the case. The matter is still under investigation.

Home break-in

A homeowner’s garage on Edgewater Crescent was broken into through a side door on Monday, April 11, according to Squamish RCMP. Nothing was stolen in the incident, but tools were removed from their container boxes and left on the floor. A white BMX bike that did not belong to the homeowners was left outside along the house fence, police said. The matter is still under investigation.

Homeless camp fire

Squamish Fire Rescue requested the RCMP attend a fire at a homeless camp on Centennial Way near the power lines on Saturday, April 16. Officers arrived to find an empty camping trailer fully engulfed in flames, according to the report. The fire was then extinguished. The trailer contained nothing of value, as the owner had recently moved out, police said. The cause of the fire remains unknown.

Suspicious stranger

A man awoke to the strange sound of his truck’s canopy being closed by a stranger on Thursday, April 14, police said.

When he looked out his window, he saw a man in his driveway on Glacier View Drive, police said. The man is described as about 5’10 tall and wearing all black clothing. Nothing was stolen, and there was no sign of damage to the truck.

Bike theft

A silver 21-speed men’s Kona Satori Bike was stolen from a garage on Ayr Drive on Friday, April 15, police said. The bike has a large frame with 29” wheels, an air pump attached to the frame with Urban Alpine Velcro straps, a spare tube under the seat, flat pedals and three SORCA stickers behind the seat post, according to Squamish RCMP. A set of Wilson golf clubs was also taken from the garage, police said. The matter is still under investigation.

Patio furniture recovered

Four large boxes of patio furniture stolen from Canadian Tire were recovered on Wednesday, April 13. A man out for a morning walk came across large, unopened boxes along the Mamquam River bridge. The Canadian Tire manager confirmed the furniture was from that store and theorized the items were taken from inside a fenced-off area outside the store, Squamish RCMP said. Surveillance is being reviewed, according to police.
