Fatal highway crash

A driver was killed after a head-on crash on Highway 99 near Brunswick Beach Road in Lions Bay on Wednesday, May 4, police reported. A northbound vehicle crossed the median and collided with a southbound vehicle, police said.

Squamish RCMP helped with staging an area for a B.C. Ambulance Service helicopter, which transported the seriously injured driver to Vancouver General Hospital. The driver later died in hospital, police said.

The Sea to Sky Highway was closed in both directions for several hours during the crash investigation. The crash is still under investigation.

 

Bear bangs on window

A mother bear and two cubs were seen at a home on Windsor Place on Wednesday, May 4. The mother bear was banging on the front window of the house, RCMP said.  The conservation officer was told of the incident, but an extensive search for the bears was unsuccessful, according to the report.

 

Love in a locker

Police were called to the storage locker located on Third Avenue on Monday, May 2, for a report of a couple “making out” in a storage unit, according to Squamish RCMP.  One of the couple had keys to the storage locker unit, police said.

 

Report of man in bushes

A woman was riding her bike on Thursday, May 5, when a man jumped out of the bushes, yelling at her, according to Squamish RCMP. The man had a rope in his hand and swung it at the rider, police said, but the rope did not hit the cyclist. The man then jumped back into the bushes, and the cyclist rode away.

Policed searched for the man but could not find him. He is described as Caucasian, in his 20s, with blonde hair and facial stubble. He was wearing a grey shirt and dark pants, police said.

Police received only one call on this matter, according to the RCMP report.

 

Counterfeit $100

A counterfeit US$100 dollar bill was used at a liquor store in Squamish on Monday, May 2, according to Squamish RCMP. An employee discovered the counterfeit bill in the nightly float, police said. The bill had Asian writing on one side, and the colour and texture of the bill were suspect, police said.  The matter is under investigation.

 

Tools stolen

A toolbox full of tools was stolen from a man’s work truck overnight on Tuesday, May 3, while it was parked at the Sandman Hotel, located on Discovery Way, Squamish RCMP said. A computer and hard drives were left behind, according to police.

The toolbox, which is made of red metal and has three drawers, is about one foot high and two feet wide. It contained multiple hand tools, such as screwdrivers, socket sets and a wrench set, some of which were the Mastercraft brand. Seven drive shafts for a robotic camera ranging were also in the toolbox.

This theft is under investigation.

 

Stolen property found

Stolen goods were discovered in the bushes along the bike trail located along Highway 99 just North of Discovery Way on Tuesday, May 3, RCMP said.

Police found two black bags and a motorcycle helmet approximately 150 metres north on Discovery Way, partially down an embankment. Inside the bag were 10 brand new clothing items, all with tags still attached. A box of macaroon bars and packages of frozen sausages were also discovered. A new skill wrench and socket set was also found.

The owners of the clothing and of the food were identified, police said, and all recovered items were returned to their owners.

 

Intoxicated youth at bonfire party

Sixty youth were discovered at a bonfire after a complaint about noise on Aristotle Drive.  All but one youth dispersed once police arrived. The youth was passed out and heavily intoxicated. The youth was medically treated, then taken to Squamish General Hospital and later released to a guardian.
