Bank robbery
The Scotiabank on Cleveland Avenue was robbed on Thursday, June 30.
The male suspect is described as a 35-40 years old, Caucasian, 5'10" tall, medium to stocky build, brown eyes, tanned complexion, with a brown mullet hair cut (short on the side but longer in the back), according to Squamish RCMP. He was unshaven and wearing a black baseball cap, black zipped-up jacket, black pants and white shoes. The suspect passed a note demanding an amount of money, claiming he had a gun and instructing the teller to remain calm. The suspect received an undisclosed amount of money and exited the bank. The police are following up on numerous leads.
Liquor store robbery
The Scottie's Liquor store on Second Avenue was robbed at gunpoint on Saturday, July 2, police said. The suspect entered the store and displayed a black handgun, waved it at the cash register and demanded money. The suspect is described as a Caucasian or First Nations man with a light complexion, brown eyes, 6'1" tall and approximately 210 pounds. The suspect was wearing a black balaclava, black gloves, black puffy jacket, black pants and black shoes.
Dog shot
A dog was likely shot by a BB or pellet gun on Tuesday, June 28, Squamish RCMP said. The dog’s owner called the police because she believed someone had shot the dog while it was outside in the backyard of the home on Lombardy Crescent. The owner was home alone and the dog, which is considered friendly, was outside when she suddenly heard it squeal and yelp and saw it run and hide. The dog was checked and a mark was found on its back, which is believed to be from a BB or pellet.
Home break-in
An Apple Mac Notebook, a six-inch hunting knife with a black sheath, cologne, miscellaneous coins and two Dell laptop computers were taken in a break-in in Cross Creek Road on Monday, June 27, according to RCMP. The break and enter reportedly happened sometime between June 24 and 27. Police recovered the cologne and miscellaneous coins.
Van break-in
A Ford E350 Van was broken into outside its residence on Wingtip Place, police said. The owner had parked the vehicle for approximately 10 minutes, and when he returned he noted his black Nike duffle bag, containing a brown Roots wallet with $200 cash, had been taken along with a Canadian passport, a WestJet plane ticket and an iPad. No one was observed outside the residence.
Impaired riding
A motorcycle rider was charged with refusal to provide a breath sample after being stopped for driving erratically on the highway on Wednesday, June 29. At 1:03 a.m., the owner of the blue Kawasaki had left Whistler and was travelling south on the Sea to Sky Highway. Police suspected the motorcyclist was heavily intoxicated while trying to get back to the Lower Mainland because the motorcycle was speeding, swerving in and out of lanes, and appeared unsteady, police said. The Squamish RCMP observed the vehicle travelling 125 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. The driver was stopped without incident. The matter is before the courts.
Theft interrupted
The Squamish RCMP interrupted a thief rummaging through a vehicle behind the Howe Sound Brew Pub on Friday, July 1. The male was going through a parked Pontiac Sunfire. Nothing was stolen. The vehicle had been left unlocked, and as a result, no tools were used to gain access, police said. The suspect was a 50 year-old Caucasian man, with dark or tanned skin. He was wearing a white hat, white shoes, and a green or beige jacket. The police are attempting to identify the suspect
House break-in
At 9:15 on Sunday, July 3 a house-sitter called the Squamish RCMP to report a break-in at the house he was caring for on Cheakamus Way. The suspect pried open a window leading to the master bedroom, police said. The suspect stood on a bucket to gain access into the house. A black duffel bag with a blue stripe and an old black iPad was taken.
