Injuries in crash

A passenger in a head-on collision on the highway Saturday, July 9, remains in  Vancouver General Hospital in critical condition, according to police.

The crash, which happened on Highway 99 near Kelvin Grove Way, occurred between a four-door Volkswagen Golf and a four-door Pontiac Grand Am, police said.

It was initially reported that several people were trapped inside the vehicle. A passenger from the Pontiac was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital with life-threatening head and spinal injuries. The driver was transported by BC Ambulance Service to Lions Gate Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Three occupants from the Volkswagen were also transported to Lions Gate Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Sea to Sky Highway was blocked for about three hours to allow the BC Ambulance helicopter to land and take off. The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) also conducted an investigation into the cause of the collision.

Windows shot

A resident at Dogwood Place had three of his home’s front windows shot with a BB Gun sometime between 10 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m., Monday, July 4, police said. One of the windows was cracked. The homeowner provided the police with a BB pellet recovered from the scene. Police officers conducted neighbourhood enquiries and are following up on other avenues of investigation, a Squamish RCMP spokesperson said.

House break-ins

Someone broke into a home on Kintyre Drive and stole $1,200 in cash sometime between June 30 at 7 a.m. and July 4. The suspect entered the house by kicking in the back door and rummaged through the house. Police conducted neighbourhood checks to see if any of nearby residents reported seeing anyone suspicious or a suspicious vehicle in the area.

A home on Tobermory Way was also broken into sometime between June 21 and July 5 and took the owners Porsche 911. Neighbours told police they noticed the Porsche missing on July 1. A camera and mountain bike were also stolen. Both files remain under investigation.

Median crash

A 2005 Mazda Tribute struck the concrete median on Highway 99 north of Porteau Cove on Thursday, July 7, Squamish RCMP said. The driver was told by employees of Miller Capilano to remain at the scene until the police arrived, but the driver got into another vehicle and left the area. Police stopped the second vehicle and spoke with the driver. Police suspect alcohol was a factor, a Squamish RCMP spokesperson said. No one was hurt in this crash.
