Truck rollover

A driver was injured in a rollover accident on Tuesday, July 12, police said. The owner of a 2005 Toyota Rav4 was travelling south when the vehicle lost control and slid sideways across Highway 99’s northbound lanes. No northbound vehicles were hit, but when the Rav4 hit the ditch it began to roll over, coming to rest next to the rock face. The driver, the sole occupant, was trapped inside the vehicle. Lions Bay firefighters cut the roof of the truck off to remove the driver. The driver was taken by BC Ambulance to Lions Gate Hospital with minor injuries.

B & Es

Downtown restaurant Sushi Geomon, on Second Avenue, was broken into on Friday, July 15, police said. The front glass door had been smashed to gain access to the business. No money was taken, however, a cabinet door was ripped off its hinges to gain entry. Nothing of value was inside. This file remains under investigation, as there were three similar files in the area. Shortly after 1 a.m., someone smashed the window of Dr. Dawydiak’s Chiropractor office, on Second Avenue. Police seek a 5 foot 10 inch man, wearing a baseball cap, black jacket, and a backpack. He was alone and last seen fleeing the scene.  At 3:30 a.m., a cyclist in the area, flagged down the Squamish RCMP to report that the door to Club Flex was smashed with a rock. It is unknown if anything was taken.

Car damaged

A car owner called the Squamish RCMP on Monday, July 11 to report that sometime overnight, someone had smashed the front windshield of their grey Toyota Camry, which was parked at the Sandman Hotel on Discovery Way, police say. The driver’s side door also had a scratch/dent. No entry was gained to the vehicle, according to the RCMP. Damage is estimated at $3,000.

Quick bike theft

A Squamish resident called the RCMP on Sunday, July 17 to report the theft of his bicycle from the alley behind Second Avenue. The theft occurred at 1 a.m. and the bike had only been left 10 minutes before the owner returned to find it stolen. The bike is described as a black Norco Sasquatch mountain bike with gold grips on the handlebars. 

More bikes stolen

Two mountain bikes worth more than $3,000 each were stolen between midnight and 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, police said. The owner’s truck was parked unattended at the Mashiter Climb Train, at the north end of Perth Drive. The owner returned to his truck to find both bikes were stolen. The first bike is described as a black and pink Santa Cruz, Bronson worth $3,000 dollars, and the second bike is a black and yellow Devinci worth $3,500. 

Found bike

Police are looking to return a child’s mountain bike to its rightful owner. The pink Specialized Hotrock bike, which was found Wednesday, July 13 at Tantalus Road and Dowad Road, has training wheels and a basket. The bike will be held for 90 days.
