Rescued climber
A climber on Panorama Ridge in Garibaldi Park fell and needed to be rescued by Squamish Search and Rescue on Thursday, Aug. 18, RCMP report. A group of climbers requested assistance for the fallen climber who was injured and trapped on an icy slope. SAR was activated and sent a helicopter into the area to rescue the climber. The climber was flown in an helicopter to the Squamish Airport to meet the ambulance, then transported to Squamish General Hospital. Injuries were non-life threatening.
Tool theft
Police say $10,000 worth of tools and brass fittings were stolen from a business on Enterprise Way between 2 p.m. on Sunday Aug. 14 and 7 a.m. Monday. The suspect cut through the chain link fence, cut padlocks to one vehicle and one sea can, RCMP said. Witnesses in the area observed a vehicle idling in the area. The only description the witness could provide was that the vehicle had a loud muffler.
Kayaker loses gear
Gear worth about $5,000 was lost when kayak overturned in Howe Sound on Sunday, Aug. 12, according to police. The loss was reported on Saturday, Aug. 20, RCMP said. The kayaker reported losing his backpack, sleeping bag, clothes, cellphone, fishing rod and camping gear.
Car break-in
A Squamish resident called the RCMP to report that sometime between Aug. 13 and 16, his or her Chrysler 300 was broken into while parked in the 40000 block of Tantalus Road, Squamish RCMP said. The car’s original stereo, after market sub-woofers, an iPhone cable and charger were taken. A screwdriver was used to punch through the front driver-side lock to gain access to the goods. The interior driver’s seat and centre console were vandalized and cut with a sharp object. The value of the items taken is estimated at $1,000. The cost of damage to the car is not known at this time. This file is under investigation.
Ring found
A Squamish resident found a 10k gold ring with numerous small diamond insets at Alice Lake parking lot in July. The resident then placed an ad in The Squamish Chief newspaper, police said. It appears the ring might have been run over by a vehicle as it is not circular anymore. Police are asking for the owner to claim the ring at the Squamish police detachment.
Bike theft
Sometime between Aug. 11 and 13, a blue-and-white Rocky Mountain Flat Line downhill mountain bike was stolen from a vehicle parked at Loggers Lane and Cleveland Ave., police said. The theft was reported to police on Aug. 16.
Mailbox break-ins
Shortly after noon on Tuesday, August 16, a Squamish resident called the Squamish RCMP to report that their 41105 Tantalus Road work mailbox had been pried open, police said. The mailboxes are located inside a fob-accessed lobby of the residential and commercial building. The suspect/s were only able to open one mailbox, however, many boxes had pry marks on them.
About 30 mailboxes at 40160 Willow Crescent were pried open on or before Friday, Aug. 19, police said. There is no definite time frame when this took place. It was also unknown at that time if any mail was taken.
HSS graffiti
Someone defaced Howe Sound Secondary School picnic tables by writing on them with black markers and liquid paper, police said. The graffiti, discovered on Wednesday, August 17, consisted of sexually explicit drawings, racial slurs and Pokémon drawings.
