Dog in distress
The Squamish RCMP assisted District of Squamish bylaw officers with the removal of a dog from a minivan with a U.S. licence plate that was parked across from Shannon Falls along Shannon Falls Park Road on Saturday, Aug. 27. It was a hot and sunny day with the outside temperature of 28 C and the vehicle was parked in direct sunlight with no shade. The internal temperature of the vehicle was measured at 36 C. Bylaw officers removed the dog, which was panting and appeared in distressed, and took it to the Squamish pound.
Suspect sought
The Squamish RCMP received a complaint on Tuesday, Aug. 23 from a resident who saw a vehicle crash into a curb at Brennan Park. The resident approached the driver and asked if he was intoxicated, Squamish RCMP said. The driver did not say anything, but turned and grabbed a backpack, then took off running behind Brennan Park towards the baseball diamonds. The driver is described as a First Nations man, in his early 30s, 5'8", with a medium build and his black hair in a pony tail. The man was reportedly wearing a long-sleeve shirt. Later, the registered owner of the vehicle came to the accident scene and said his vehicle had been missing. Police have seized video surveillance and this file remains under investigation to identify the driver.
Suspicious behaviour
A man was observed looking into a window at the back of a residence on Jura Crescent at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, police said. The tenant saw the man, made eye contact with him, and then he fled the backyard. This man continued to the next yard, where he peered into the house's windows and then fled in an unknown direction. He described as an older Caucasian man, 50 to 60 years of age, 6 feet tall with a muscular build, white hair and a white beard that goes down to his chest. He was wearing a beige one-piece work suit.
Tent thief
A $200-camping tent was stolen between 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Monday, Aug. 22, according to the Squamish RCMP. The owner told police that she was camping near the river, and left her three-person red-and-white Hubberd tent for a few hours. When she returned it was gone.
Bike thefts
On Monday, Aug. 22, at approximately 12:50 p.m., the owner of a white, beige and black 2010 Trek Scratch bike parked behind the Timberwolf Restaurant and upon return 10 minutes later discovered the lock had been cut and the bike stolen, according to Squamish RCMP. The bicycle had distinctive red handle bars and pedals with a zap strap and white Cranks.
A Diadora Modena 19", 21-speed bicycle was stolen from a home in the 390000 block of Government Road on Tuesday Aug. 23, according to the RCMP. The bike was not locked and was leaning against the house under the front window before it was stolen.
On Wednesday Aug. 24, a woman’s $3,000 bike was stolen from her black Ford van while it was parked on Bailey Street overnight, police said. The stolen bike is unique and custom made so it is very recognizable. It is the Spitfire model of the Banshee mountain bike, has full suspension and red with black and yellow Kore brand handle bars. The serial number was provided to the police.
Also on Wednesday, a man’s 2010 white Giant Trance 21-speed mountain bike with Fox Float 32 forks was stolen from outside his residence on Valley Green Way. The bike was locked at the time, but the suspect cut the lock to take the bike.
A 2010 black Trek Session 88 bike was stolen off the rack of a Jeep Cherokee on Pemberton Avenue. between 4 and 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25, police said. The lock was cut to remove the bike from the rack. Some aftermarket parts to note are: 2015 RockShoxs boxer front suspension, black and red Marzocci rear shocks and grey and black rims. There was also white "Squampton" stickers on the frame.
