Dog and owner rescue
RCMP and Squamish Search and Rescue responded to a call for assistance from a dog owner who’s four-legged companion had fallen into a ravine near the lookout north of Lions Bay on Highway 99 on Saturday, Sept. 24. When the owner attempted to rescue the dog, the owner became stuck as well. A Search and Rescue helicopter was called into action and the owner and the dog were safely lifted out.
Mail theft
The Squamish RCMP has received several complaints from Canada Post that mail boxes in Squamish were broken into overnight Wednesday, Sept. 21 and mail was taken. Residents of the Tantalus and Eaglewind areas are cautioned to watch their banking information, police said.
Shoplifted
Staff at Home Depot contacted police to report that on Sunday, Sept. 25 a Caucasian male in his 30s with a medium build had walked out of the store carrying a $489 garburator (make: Insinkerator, model: 76336B) and a $482 hot water dispenser (make: Insinkerator, model: 44021C). The male left in a white Dodge pickup driven by a blonde female in her 30s. Surveillance footage was obtained from the store and police are actively investigating the theft.
Suitcases stolen
Police received a report from an Australian tourist that his/her rental car was broken into while parked in the parking lot for Shannon Falls on Saturday, Sept. 24. The tourist’s suitcases, which contained personal items and cash were stolen. There was no sign of forced entry, so it was assumed that the vehicle had been left unlocked.
Theft of pickup
A Squamish resident called the Squamish RCMP on Monday, Sept. 19 to report the theft of a black Ford pickup from Commercial Place sometime the previous evening. The vehicle is still missing and police are actively investigating the incident.
Business B&E
Police responded to an alarm at a business in the downtown during the early morning of Tuesday, Sept. 20.
The front window of the shop had been smashed and cash was stolen from the office, according to Squamish RCMP. The neighbourhood was canvassed for any witnesses or surveillance cameras that point towards the business.
Garage break-in
The Squamish RCMP received a complaint from a resident of Wilson Crescent that their garage had been broken into sometime between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. overnight on Wednesday, Sept. 21. Entry was gained to the garage via an unlocked door.Several tools and pieces of hardware were taken. A forensic examination was conducted and the neighbourhood was canvassed for witnesses. The incident is still being investigated.
Theft from auto
The Squamish RCMP received a report that a Toyota Corolla had been broken into while parked in the parking lot for the Stawamus Chief between 6 and 7:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21. The front driver’s side door had been pried open and several items were taken.
