Armed robbery
A man robbed the Sea to Sky Hotel beer and wine store on Tantalus Road on Sunday, Oct. 2 of $200, police said. The suspect is described as a Caucasian man, 5’8 to 6’2, medium build, wearing a black sweater, blue pants with a white stripe down the side, a black balaclava and black gloves, according to Squamish RCMP. The suspect displayed what appeared to be a handgun. The man took the money and ran away from the store heading north. Surveillance from the store was seized.
Charges brought
A Squamish resident is being charged with possession of stolen property obtained by crime after items were taken during a break and enter of a home in Natures Gate, police said. As RCMP members were executing search warrants at homes in Squamish, they discovered the exact remote control toy truck and a wrench set missing from the Nature’s Gate home. Police drafted another search warrant and the seized stolen property. At this time, the suspect can’t be identified as the file remains under investigation.
Pizza shop break-in
On Monday, Sept. 26 someone smashed the front window of Panago Pizza on Pemberton Avenue, police said. The owner of the business came to the store and confirmed that nothing was taken. No suspects were seen fleeing from the pizza restaurant.
Tired hiker
Around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27, a tired hiker called 911 to report that he or she had hiked four kilometres on the Sea to Summit Trail and was too exhausted to continue.
A police officer called the hiker back and explained that the RCMP or Search and Rescue would not be attending just because someone was tired.
The police officer encouraged the hiker to rest, drink water and to then continue to the Sea to Sky Gondola. At 5:30 p.m., the police officer called the hiker back.
The hiker advised that he or she made it to the gondola and was safe, and thanked the police officer for the assistance and promised to be better prepared next time.
Theft and flee
A break and enter occurred between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28. on Garibaldi Way, police said.
The resident told police an unknown man, described as approximately 5’10 to 6’ tall, with a stocky build, a shaved head, no facial hair and olive skin, broke into the woodshed in the backyard.
The resident was woken up by his security censored outdoor light and when he looked outside he saw a man coming out of his back woodshed holding a box full of tools.
The suspect was wearing a blue safety vest and construction sweater with reflectors on it and blue jeans. The complainant confronted the man and the man said, “I’m broke and destitute” and then told the resident to let him go. The man then threw the box of tools and fled.
He then got on a small BMX bicycle and road off northbound on Garibaldi Avenue, according to police.
A blue Norc Santa Cruz mountain bicycle with a white seat and dark purple handle bars, a red Milwaukee impact drill and charger, and a blue Mikita impact gun were stolen.
