Bear destroyed
A severely injured bear had to be destroyed by Squamish RCMP on Monday, Oct. 24.
The local detachment was notified of a bear that had been struck and injured by a truck along Mamquam Road. The bear was able to slowly move onto the adjacent golf course and attempted to climb a tree without success. Officers consulted with conservation officers and it was confirmed that the bear couldn’t recover from its injuries. Local officers destroyed the bear.

 Aggressive bear

Squamish RCMP members went to a home in the 40000 block of Highlands Way North to deal with an aggressive bear on Monday, Oct. 24. A resident said a large black bear was attempting to break into her garbage totes in her driveway. The woman attempted to scare away the bear that then stood up on its rear paws and hissed at her, police said.

The woman then locked herself in her house and contacted police. Conservation officers were not available at the time. Officers saw wet paws prints on the pavement of the driveway, but the bear could not be found.

 B&E at Bean

At 4:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, officers went to Bean Around the World where employees had discovered that the business had been broken into overnight. The glass front door had been broken to gain entry and some money was stolen, according to Squamish RCMP.

 Mischief to vehicles

A suspect caused damages to several vehicles in the Brackendale area on Wednesday, Oct. 26 while attempting to break-in to the vehicles that were parked in driveways on Macdonald Place and Government Road overnight. The damage appears to be from a crow bar. No actual thefts were reported in these cases, police said.

 Attempted break-in
A Squamish man reported to Squamish RCMP that one of his windows was tampered with in an attempted break-in to his home on the 41000 block of Kingswood Road in Brackendale on Wednesday, Oct. 26.

The incident occurred sometime during the day. The downstairs window was opened and the screen was broken off, police said. The window was held closed by a stick so no entry was gained to the residence.

 Only a flashlight

A resident’s vehicle was rummaged through overnight while it was parked in his driveway in the 1000 block of Tobermory Way on Thursday, Oct. 27, Squamish RCMP said. The vehicle showed no forced entry and the only item stolen was an LED flashlight.
