Armed robbery

A man with a knife robbed the Mountain Retreat Hotel Liquor store On Monday, Nov. 7, Squamish RCMP said. At 1:17 p.m., a complainant called the Squamish RCMP to report that a Caucasian man, 6 feet tall with a medium build, had come into the liquor store holding a knife and demanded the employee open the till, police said. The man was dressed in all black, including a scarf-type mask that covered his eyes. The suspect got away with $220 and left in a dark vehicle heading northbound on Progress Way. The file is under investigation.

Distressed person comforted

A distraught individual was rescued by Squamish RCMP on Tuesday, Nov. 8, police said. The Squamish RCMP received a call from someone who reported that their friend was suicidal.  A police officer found this individual sitting on the Mamquam River train bridge. The distraught person was preparing to dive into the fast moving river. The individual was hanging off the bridge railing by two fingers for a time. After a lengthy conversation, the police officer was able to de-escalate the situation, and to convince the individual not to jump. The person was brought off the bridge to safety, apprehended and taken to the hospital for help.

 

Pumpkin exploders  

Some youth are accused of blowing up a pumpkin on a man’s vehicle on Nov. 10, police said. The youth had used fireworks to explode the pumpkin while the man’s vehicle was parked outside his residence on Plateau Crescent. The complainant spoke with one of the youth, who provided contact information to the man, in case there was any damage to his vehicle. The man said it was just "kids being kids" and he did not want the police to pursue any action against the youth.

 

B&E

A home in the 20000 block of Tantalus Road was broken into between 1- and1:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7, police said. The homeowner told Squamish RCMP a credit card was stolen from her vehicle and used immediately at the 7-11. The surveillance was obtained and the file remains under investigation.

 

Chainsaw theft

A chainsaw was reported stolen from the display shelf at Howe Sound Equipment on Thursday, Nov. 10, police said. The theft occurred between Oct. 20th and Nov. 1st. The chainsaw is described as an orange Stihl Model MS661C, value worth $1,500.

 

Vehicle damage

Someone stole the light bar off the front of a man’s Chevy Silverado, sometime over the course of the night on Saturday, Nov. 12, police said. The truck was parked on the street in front of a residence on Tantalus Road. The light bar is described as a Rigid 30" LED worth about $1,500. No one was seen or heard during this theft.
