Kayak gear found
A man found an orange Winderness System Kayak, a paddle, a canvas kayak cover, splash cover and a carrying trolley in a log jam along the Squamish River at the confluence of Mamquam River on Thursday, Nov. 24. The kayak was ground into the sand and when the man turned the kayak over he found drywall tools – a sander, drill and dust mask – and other hand tools as well as a hand-held radio. There was no one in the area in distress. The tools were mixed up with mud and water, and after cleaning the recovered items no identifying marks were found. The following day, the man returned to the area and found a brown tarp, a wet sleeping bag and a bag full of clothing, including a leather jacket and pants. The man said clothing was spread around the area. No missing people or stolen gear has been reported. Anyone with any information about these items is asked to contact the Squamish RCMP.
Robbed while shopping
A woman’s purple wallet and cellphone were stolen while she was shopping at the Save-On-Foods on Thursday, Nov. 24. The woman was shopping and left her cart for a moment and when she turned around her wallet and cellphone were missing. She used the “Find my iPhone” app and found the Apple iPhone in a dumpster at Nesters Market across the road. The wallet was missing her Visa cards, a Bank of Montreal debit card, a B.C. medical care card and a B.C. drivers licence.
Golf course B&E
Sometime between Nov. 21 and the morning of Nov. 22, individuals broke into the secure maintenance yard of the Furry Creek Golf Course. A number of items were stolen from the shed, including a gas tank, gas cans and one u-built trailer. A suspicious vehicle was seen the next day and police officers were able to identify the occupants. Police are following up on some leads.
Garbage can fire
Squamish Fire and Rescue requested the Squamish RCMP join them at a garbage can fire in the 1600 block of Arrowhead Road on Sunday, Nov. 27. Police arrived on scene and helped with traffic control in the area. There was nothing suspicious about the fire and Squamish Fire and Rescue was able to put it out.
Firewood thief?
Someone called the Squamish RCMP on Sunday, Nov. 27 to report that a man was currently in the neighbour’s carport stealing kindling. The man, 5’11” with a medium build, was wearing a grey hoodie and sweat pants, police said. The man then left and went to another unit and stole a single piece of wood. The units in the complex are wood stove heated, and it was believed that the man lives in the complex.
Bathroom break-in
Someone called the Squamish RCMP to report a suspicious occurrence at the public bathroom at Porteau Cove Provincial Park on Thursday, Nov. 24. The caller said the bathroom window looked like it had been opened from the outside sometime between 5:30 p.m. and 8 a.m. the following morning.
