Suspicious men at Quest
The Squamish RCMP responded to a report from Quest University security that two suspicious men were seen on campus trying to open locked doors and looking into vehicles on Feb. 14, police said.
One of the men is described as Caucasian, 24 to 30 years of age, 5’3” to 5’5” tall, with short brown hair. This man also had short stubble and a scar or graze on his face near his eye. The second man’s description was not given. Police have surveillance video from the university.
Hwy 99 rockslide
The Squamish RCMP were called to attend a rockslide on Highway 99 near the Chance Creek Forest Service Road around 2:40 a.m. on Feb. 15. The police arrived and found heavy rain had caused the minor slide. Rocks covered all lanes of the highway so Miller Capilano brought a front-end loader to clear the debris. The police were able to redirect traffic through a pull-out area.
Sawing for cash
The Squamish RCMP received a report of mischief at the Sea To Sky Carwash on Industrial Way on Feb. 16.
Surveillance video shows a man taking a grinder to the automated carwash control panel, trying to gain access to the cash inside.
The suspect arrived on an older model bike and was wearing a snowboard jacket and was carrying a large backpack. Surveillance video shows the man taking out a gas-powered cut saw and trying to grind into the cash box, causing $500 worth of damage. The man did not gain access. This file remains under investigation.
Speeder caught
A Sea to Sky Traffic Services police officer stopped someone driving an SUV 175 kilometres an hour on Highway 99 at the Tantalus turn-off on Feb. 17.
The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the driver was given a speeding ticket. With the weather improving, the police would like to remind drivers to travel at the posted speed limits.
Mischief to trailer
A man’s cargo trailer was rummaged through while it was parked in the 1500-block of Pemberton Ave. on Feb. 15. The man received a phone call after he left work from a neighbouring business reporting that his business door was ajar. He returned to work to find one of the lock brackets had been cut and someone had gone through the trailer. It appeared that the lock was cut with a pair of lock cutters or snips. Nothing was taken. Video surveillance was seized and the RCMP are working to identify the suspect.
Mirror stolen
A heated automatic mirror worth $500 was stolen off of a pickup truck on Feb. 15. The owner said his vehicle was parked in the 1000-block of Commercial Place and that the theft had occurred sometime during the night.
Ooops
A woman thought the window was stolen from her vehicle on Saturday, Feb. 18, Squamish RCMP said. There was no glass on the ground and the owner was unclear how the theft could have occurred. The police officer noted that the owner had left the window open and proceeded to roll up the window. This file is concluded.
