UFOs, dude
A Lions Bay resident called police to report seeing multiple unidentified flying objects (UFOs) flying over Lions Bay on Feb. 21.
The caller claimed not to be drinking or doing drugs and said their family was watching these UFOs for 45 minutes before the objects vanished.
Apparently, there was initially just one larger object in the sky. It was observed above the bay and had a bright light “that was not a plane or star,” the caller told police. After a little while, three smaller green lights hovered and quickly moved around the bay below the large light. The caller said it appeared as if the smaller green lights were communicating with the large light, although it made no sound. Eventually all the lights suddenly vanished, starting with the larger one and followed soon after by the smaller green ones. The caller reported that this was the second time UFO activity was observed in the area and that a similar thing happened two years ago. Photos of the objects were obtained and forwarded to the police for investigation.

Lost and found
Three outdoor enthusiasts were rescued by Squamish Search and Rescue (SAR) on Feb. 25.
The Squamish RCMP received a call from a lost hiker, who reported that he and two others were in the area of Elfin Lakes.  All three people were prepared for the night with blankets, snacks and water and were in good health. The RCMP contacted SAR to advise them of the situation and to provide information. The three lost hikers were in contact with SAR and it was agreed they would stay the night. All three hikers got out safe the next day with the help of Squamish Search and Rescue members.

Business B&E
Around $10,000 worth of tools for welding and grinders, electrical cables and other equipment were stolen during a break-in in the 59000-block of Squamish Valley Road on Feb. 21, police said.
The owner said he went to the business at 6:30 a.m. and found the office door unlocked. It appears the shop’s forklift was also moved and parked 200 metres behind the business.  The Squamish RCMP are following up on avenues of investigation.

Home B&E
A home on Edgewater Crescent was broken into on Feb. 21. According to the homeowner, the break-in occurred between 11 p.m. on Feb. 20 to 5 a.m. on the 21.  Someone used a garage door opener taken from the owner’s unlocked vehicle to open the garage door from the driveway, and once inside took a custom set of golf clubs and a miter saw.

Britannia fire break-in
Between Feb. 8 and 21, someone cut off the lock to the equipment trailer at the Britannia Beach Fire Hall. It appeared  the trailer was rummaged through, but there was nothing of value to steal. As a result of this incident, the trailer is being moved inside the hall.
