Couple arrested

A man and woman, both Squamish residents, were arrested for possession of stolen property after police recovered a custom-built red, downhill bicycle that had been stolen from an unlocked garage on Tuesday, Feb. 28 police said. The stolen bike was spotted by a taxi driver at the Sea to Sky Hotel after the theft. Police arrived at that location and found the stolen bike. Both suspects were charged and transported to court the following day.  Their names will be released at a later time, police said.

Man chased by bear

A man was chased by a bear in the 38000 block of Progress Way on Friday, March 3, police said. The man was able to make it home safe and only called over concern for children at a nearby school. Police were unable to locate the bear.  The conservation service was notified of this first bear call of the season.

Home B&E

A home on Westway Ave. was broken into Saturday, March, 4, police said. A bedroom door was kicked in and drawers were rummaged through. Taken were six old and partially broken cell phones, a tablet, and a laptop. Police arrived and photographed the scene.

Strange situation with Subaru

The Squamish RCMP responded to a report of a 2010 grey Subaru with a Washington State licence plate parked in the middle of the Stawamus Chief parking lot with a smashed passenger door window on Monday, Feb. 27, police said. The vehicle had its four-way flashers on when the police arrived, however the owner was not on scene.  The glove box was open but it was unknown if anything was removed from the vehicle. The police have since identified the registered owner of the Subaru.

Theft from autos

The front passenger window of a Toyota Tacoma was broken into with an unknown tool and several items were stolen from it on Monday, Feb. 27, police said, while the vehicle was parked overnight at the Garibaldi Lake Provincial Park.  The vehicle owner is visiting from Washington. Taken from the vehicle was: prescription glasses, a black Patagonia jacket, climbing gear, hatchet and bear spray

A B.C. resident’s clothing, safety gear and snowmobile accessories worth approximately $2,000 dollars were stolen from a  white Ford F150, police said.  The vehicle was parked at a hotel in the 38000 block of Progress Way. The truck was backed up with the tailgate facing a path.  It's believed that someone accessed the tailgate from the path and removed a rubber container containing the items.  Police would like to remind everyone to secure items either in the cab of a vehicle or in a hotel room to minimize the potential for theft.

Britannia lamp posts broken

Someone broke lamp posts in Britannia Beach on Thursday, March, 2, police said. The lamps had just been replaced after being broken about two years ago, police said.  The posts are approximately four feet high and were broken at the base and knocked over, exposing the wiring beneath.  Police took photos of the damage.  Police tape was placed around the posts to warn of the wires.  The SLRD was notified of the damage. 

Bike theft

An orange and black, Kona mountain bike, worth $1,000 was stolen between Feb. 26-27th, police said.  The bike was parked underneath the open carport in the 38100 block on Sixth Ave. at the time of the theft. The bike’s serial number was provided to the Squamish RCMP for their file.
