Forklift used in B&E
A business on Galbrieth Road was broken into and a 500-pound industrial Tig 275 Precision Welder valued at $4,000 was stolen March 6, police said. The welder has a model number of K2618-1 and serial number U1161001591. The suspects used a forklift to transport the welder to a vehicle.
False 911 police report
A false police report was made that a bus LED sign was displaying “Call 911” March 7, police said. Squamish RCMP went to the Squamish Transit centre on Production Way and it was confirmed that there was no emergency. The purpose of the LED sign, activated by a switch, is to show the bus route and for important messaging like 911. This is used for the safety of the driver and passengers. The bus was later found by a police officer and it was further confirmed that everything was fine.
Handy man theft?
A truck was broken into when it was parked on Portree Way on March 7. The theft happened sometime from January to Feb. 2. A Home Depot credit card was stolen and around $2,000 in purchases were put on the card on Feb. 2 from the Home Depot location on Terminal Avenue in Vancouver. The file remains under investigation and the Vancouver Police Department is looking into the fraud. As of this date, there have been five purchases made in Vancouver and one purchase made in Burnaby.
Suspicious circumstance
Squamish RCMP received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle in the 38000-block of Cleveland Avenue on March 8. A man was reportedly walking up and down Cleveland Avenue banging on doors and windows. The man did not gain entry into any residences. He then got into a blue two-door Honda Civic with another man and drove northbound on Cleveland Avenue. The car was swerving all over the road and it was suspected the driver was impaired by alcohol. Police were unable to locate the vehicle. No description of the man is available.
Vehicle break-in
A Dodge Ram was broken into and a blue work bag was taken while the vehicle was parked on Cardinal Drive on March 12. In the blue bag was an Apple computer, a work chequebook, $500 in cash and a work credit card. A neighbour was able to provide video surveillance that showed a woman trying to open vehicle doors around their neighbourhood. The image of the woman was provided to the community police coordinator to be sent out on the Crime Stoppers Facebook website. The file remains under investigation.
Missing your bike?
A Squamish resident dropped off a bicycle at the Squamish RCMP detachment on March 6 that was found on March 1 at the Remax office at 38261 Cleveland Ave. The resident posted the bicycle on a Facebook lost and found page, but no one claimed the bike. The bicycle is described as a $400 black Next Highpeak mountain bike.
The serial number SNFS914AC6153 was checked, but the bike had not been reported as stolen. The bicycle has a broken front brake, rusted chain and no rubber on the handle bars.
