A man was arrested after he was discovered next to a fire made from several pallets in a laneway near Second Avenue in a dual residential/commercial area on April 2. The man had snuck into a nearby business through a window, according to Squamish RCMP. Police are recommending charges of arson, mischief and break-and-enter.
Man arrested
A man is facing multiple criminal charges after Squamish RCMP were notified by a logging crew of a suspicious car parked at the Furry Creek Forest Service Road gate on April 1. The man who was in the car quickly fled when he saw the work crew. The car was found to be stolen and when police checked on the home the car was registered to they discovered that a burglary happened there.
Suspicious man
An unknown man tried to enter a home in the 3800-block of Wilson Crescent at about 1 p.m. on March 27, police said. The man first knocked on the door to the home and when no one answered, tried to open the door and found it was locked. The man then left the area and has not been located by police. He is described as Caucasian, in his mid-40s and was wearing a blue toque and jacket.
Tired hikers
On April 2, a family of hikers, including young children, became exhausted while climbing the Spirit Trail to the Sea to Sky Gondola at about the five-kilometre mark. The hikers were safely brought down by gondola staff, but this incident serves as a reminder, police said. It is important to head out prepared, don’t go beyond your skill level and always let others know where you are and when you plan to return.
Ride and dash
Two men ran off without paying for their cab ride on March 31, police said. The male passengers had taken a cab to the first block of Lewis Drive and then proceeded to run off without paying. The driver later determined the men had stolen a clip board full of taxi receipts as well.
Rogue target shooters
Two men were firing rifles at targets around the six-kilometre mark on the Squamish Forest Service Road. While this area is legal for the discharge of firearms, the men chose an unsafe location near an active BC Hydro project. It is also possible that the shooters were actually within the property boundaries of land owned by BC Hydro. These men were not located by police. Local target shooters are reminded to be very careful when selecting shooting locations and to always utilize safe backdrops. Never shoot around active work areas. Permission must be granted to shoot on land other than Crown parcels.
Lost snowmobile
An abandoned orange Arctic Cat snowmobile was found near Brohm Ridge on April 1, Squamish RCMP said. It was towed and later retrieved by its owner.
