Woman arrested

A woman was arrested after both licence plates were stolen from a man’s vehicle while it was parked in a driveway in the 38800 block of Gambier Ave., on Friday, April 21. A woman was seen committing the offence and was later found with the vehicle at a local restaurant and the vehicle was searched. Officers found the stolen licence plates, other stolen property, drugs, break and enter tools and documents belonging to other people. The woman was charged with several counts under the Criminal Code of Canada, police said.

 

Suspicious fire

A security guard notified the Squamish RCMP that he had discovered an extinguished fire in a covered area of Mamquam Elementary School, on Monday, April 17.  Officers arrived and saw that the pavement was blackened and there was partially burnt wood and burnt up papers. The security guard said he patrolled the area earlier in the day and didn’t see the blackening. No damage was done to the building. This area is known for teens gathering at night for drinking and smoking, according to Squamish RCMP.

 

Impersonation

On Tuesday, April 18, the fire department reported to police that a black BMW X5 with an Alberta plate was speeding while travelling northbound on Highway 99 near Porteau Cove with what appeared to be emergency police lights on. Squamish RCMP confirmed with all other police departments and emergency services that it was not a police vehicle. Despite extensive searching, officers were not able to locate the vehicle.

 

Theft of mail

Twelve commercial outdoor mailboxes were broken into overnight in the 39000 block of Queens Way on Tuesday, April 18, police said. Canada Post and businesses owning the mailboxes were updated regarding potential fraud.

 

Theft from vehicle

A woman’s wallet was stolen from her rental vehicle while it was parked in the 2500 block of Mamquam Rd. between 2:30 – 4 p.m. on Monday, April 17. Cash and credit cards were stolen and the cards were subsequently charged, $3,000.
