Equipment found

A local resident turned in $30,000 worth of survey equipment found on Newport Beach to the Squamish RCMP detachment on May 9. The serial numbers were located on the police database and the equipment was determined to be stolen from a surveying company in the Lower Mainland.

 

Crash in Furry Creek

Impaired driving is expected in a single vehicle collision in Furry Creek that occurred on May 9, police said. The vehicle had skidded off Highway 99, hit a rock on the side of the road and flipped multiple times. BC Ambulance, Britannia Beach Fire Department and RCMP arrived at the scene. The occupants were treated for injuries and the driver was investigated for impaired driving.

 

Bobcat parts stolen

In the early morning of May 8, in the 1100 block of Pioneer Way, a Bobcat Skid Steer door, along with a hydraulic arm, were stolen from a business, police said. The theft is believed to have occurred between 11 p.m. the previous night and 5 a.m. that morning.

 

Vehicles damaged

An employee of a business in Squamish reported that several work vehicles had been recently vandalized with graffiti and other physical damage. The vehicles had been parked in several locations in Squamish including Valleycliffe and on Loggers Lane. On May 13, the same company vans were again vandalized with graffiti in Valleycliffe.

A resident of Valleycliffe called the RCMP on May 9 to report multiple buildings in the area of Maple Drive and Westway Avenue had been vandalized with graffiti. The graffiti occurred within the previous 36 hours.

 

Bear calls

The Squamish RCMP has recently had a large increase in bear calls and would like to remind residents to ensure all wildlife attractants, especially garbage, are secured and removed if necessary. The reports have come from various locations in Squamish and include multiple reports in the Highlands. If you see bear activity in your area please report it to the conservation service line at 1-877-952-RAPP (7277).
