Building investigated
What the RCMP is calling a suspicious occurrence on Second Avenue prompted officers to investigate a building on May 30. Police cleared out a hallway after receiving reports there may have been multiple people above a business in the same facility.
All the doors to offices upstairs were locked, but officers took note of any evidence that someone may have been in the area, the RCMP said.
A man was seen leaving with a bike from the front door, according to police.
Staff members from the business said they may have forgotten to lock the front door.
Vehicle scratched with key
Squamish RCMP say a vehicle parked at Cat Lake appears to have been deliberately keyed on May 31.
The owners found multiple scratches on almost every panel of the vehicle except the hood, officers say.
Police have photos of the vehicle, though there were no witnesses or cameras in the area.
Motorcycle stolen
A motorcycle was stolen from the bed of a pickup truck along Government Road, according to Squamish RCMP.
Heavy chains and a lock holding down the bike were either cut or removed during the alleged offence, which is believed to have taken place between 9:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. on June 3.
Officers say there was probably more than one alleged offender because the tail gate was locked, implying that the 250-pound bike would’ve had to be lifted from the raised truck.
There was no damage to the vehicle, police say, and no suspects or witnesses have been identified.
Screams heard on the Chief
A man was heard screaming in pain on the rock face of the Stawamus Chief, according to a report received by Squamish RCMP on June 3.
Officers say police patrolled the area and consulted with search and rescue.
It was busy and many people were climbing in the area, officers said.
People often communicate with each other loudly when climbing the Chief, police say, and it’s common for people to have headlamps on when it’s dusk.
Overturned Canoes
Squamish RCMP received two separate reports of people falling out of their canoes on June 3.
In the first incident, one person was stranded in the middle of the Upper Squamish River, where a group’s canoe overturned.
Search and rescue teams were dispatched to rescue the stranded person.
In the second incident, a man fell out of his canoe in Mamquam River.
He reported it to officers to alert them in case they received a call for a lone canoe without a paddler.
Everyone involved was wearing safety gear.
Stolen Truck & snowmobile
A truck with a snowmobile in its bed was stolen, according to a report received by Squamish RCMP on June 4.
Officers say the truck was parked along Government Road.
There were no witnesses, police say, and the suspects were able to gain access to the truck without breaking any windows.
Neither the truck or the snowmobile has been found, and officers are continuing their investigation.
