Hot dog
A woman called police on Tuesday, June 20 to report that she had observed a large brown dog locked in a pickup outside of the Subway off of Pemberton Avenue.
The windows were up on the hot day.
The owner returned to the vehicle and the dog was fine, but police remind pet owners not to leave pets in vehicles during the summer months.
Bears galore
Several bear incidents were reported this past week.
A lone baby black bear was seen sitting at the intersection of Gambier Avenue and Magee Street on Tuesday, June 20.
It appeared the mother bear had become temporarily stuck in a nearby garbage can and the cub was waiting for the mother to free herself.
Police attended and scared the bears back into the nearby wooded area.
On Thursday, a bear tore up a tent to get to food that was stored inside it, at the Porteau Cove Provincial Park campground.
The bear had eaten its fill by the time police arrived. The campers were told to keep their food cache in their vehicle or up a tree, instead of in their tent.
Also on Thursday, police officers were dispatched to a report of a black bear that was seen going through garbage near Victoria Street and Third Avenue.
Officers arrived and were forced to deploy several bear bangers to scare the bear out of the area.
Bar B&E
A local downtown nightclub was broken into overnight on Wednesday, June 21.
Police obtained surveillance footage of the suspect and are investigating the incident.
Sinking boat
The Squamish RCMP helped the Coast Guard with a sinking sailboat just north of the Squamish Yacht Club on Saturday, June 24.
The Coast Guard sent a tugboat to rescue the boat, while police confirmed no one on board.
Dog rescued
A dog was shaken, but not injured after a fall in the river above Shannon Falls on the Sea to Summit Trail, police said.
The dog’s owner called police when her dog fell and was trapped just above the falls.
Another hiker climbed down and rescued the dog from the river. Other hikers then assisted the rescuer to haul the dog back up to the trail.
