Children left in vehicle
A Squamish resident called the Squamish RCMP to report that on Friday, Aug. 11, when the temperature was 28 degrees celsius, two children, aged one and two, were left alone for 10 minutes inside a vehicle parked in the 1200 block of Hunter Place. She told an officer that when she approached the vehicle, one of the children complained of being hot and wanted to remove his shoes. Shortly after police were contacted, the parents came back and the family drove away. The resident took down the vehicle licence plate so RCMP officers are following up with the parents and appropriate agencies.

Fire during ban
Some people still aren’t getting the point.
Squamish RCMP along with the Squamish Fire Department were dispatched to Spit Road to address campers who ignored the active provincial fire ban and started a fire on the gravel road, on Tuesday, Aug. 8. The fire was still going when the fire department arrived and the campers were issued a $1,150 ticket under the Wildfire Act. Squamish RCMP, conservation officers, the fire department and the fire warden are working together to ensure that our community is safe and that the provincial fire ban is fully abided by. The Squamish RCMP detachment has a zero-tolerance policy in regard to open fire and a $1,150 provincial ticket will be issued when a fire is located.
