Aggressive camper at Lake
An intoxicated man was arrested after he was seen yelling and threatening campers at Cat Lake on Aug. 28. The incident happened after an altercation between the man and a group of people escalated, police said. Officers arrived at the lake and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. The man is facing multiple charges.
Tree falls on moving car
A large tree fell on a woman’s car while she was driving on Highway 99 at Squamish Valley Road on Aug. 29, police said.
The rotting tree was 35 metres tall and fell from the wooded area off the shoulder of the highway. Luckily the driver was not injured – the tree broke into pieces when it landed on her vehicle.
SUV flips
Squamish RCMP officers discovered an overturned vehicle at the bottom of an embankment off Mamquam Road on Sept. 2. No one was in the blue SUV or found in the surrounding area. Anyone with information about how the vehicle ended up off the road is asked to call the Squamish RCMP.
Campfire fines
On Aug. 31, Squamish RCMP and the Squamish fire department answered a call about a fire burning near Valley Drive. A man was found camping beside an extinguished, but still warm, campfire. He was issued a ticket for $1,150. Several more open fires were reported to the Squamish RCMP on Sept. 3. The first was an open fire at Anderson Beach. The second was at Porteau Cove. Squamish RCMP officers again gave campers a $1,150 ticket.
