ATVing under the influence?

A man is facing charges after he crashed his ATV into a pole near Buckley Avenue on Sept. 4, police said. Squamish RCMP members attended the accident with paramedics and firefighters. He was taken to Squamish General Hospital for treatment and is facing various impaired driving charges, along with several motor vehicle offences.

Theft suspects arrested

Two people were arrested and face charges of possession of stolen property after park rangers in Porteau Cove reported to police that a driver and passenger in a vehicle possibly containing stolen items were being evicted from the park on Sept. 5.

Trespass at Britannia Beach

A man and woman were arrested after they were found trespassing at Britannia Beach on Sept. 6, Squamish RCMP said. Officers had been alerted to suspicious activity in the hills of Britannia Beach. They arrived with police service dogs and located the pair. The suspects are currently facing multiple property and drug related charges.

Hiker serves as example

On Sept. 4, Squamish RCMP received a report of an overdue hiker who was traveling on a three-day hike off the Ashlu forest service road. Squamish Search and Rescue was deployed to search for the hiker. The next day, the hiker made it to safety and notified the RCMP and his family members. This incident shows the importance of notifying family of travel plans and expected in-and-out dates and times, police said.  Many areas of the Squamish backcountry do not have cellphone service and, therefore, the ability to contact anyone during an emergency does not exist. Luckily, the hiker was uninjured and safe.

Bike theft

A men’s blue Kona Cinder Cone mountain bike with bomber shocks was stolen from the backyard of a home on The Boulevard in the Garibaldi Highlands between Sept. 1 and 4, police said. If anyone sees a bike matching the description, call Squamish RCMP.

Anyone with information relating to any crime is encouraged to contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
