Logging truck accident

A logging truck rolled over on Nov. 6, blocking the Sea to Sky Highway north of Squamish.

Police say the truck’s load came loose and hit three other vehicles.

Most people in the accident were brought to Squamish General Hospital and were examined for various injuries.

The logging truck and its trailer are being examined.

CRA scam

A person pretending to work for the Canada Revenue Agency allegedly called up a local and told him he owed money for unpaid taxes.

Police say the alleged fraudster directed the victim to buy gift cards and give away the activation numbers.

The victim realized it was a scam after receiving a similar call the next day.

Officers say these scams are getting more frequent in our community.

Police say the Canada Revenue Agency would never request tax payment by way of gift card.

Any similar circumstances should be reported to the Squamish RCMP and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center. Do not hesitate to talk to officers if in doubt.

Two days, four break-ins

There were four break-ins over the span of two days from Nov. 12 to 13.

In the first case, someone broke into the basement of a house on the 40500-block of Thunderbird Ridge in Squamish on Nov. 12.

Three bikes, a chainsaw and outdoor equipment were among the stolen items.

The bikes are as follows: a burgundy 2017 Liv Hail 11-speed bicycle; a black and pink 2015 Santa Cruz Bronson 11-speed bicycle; an orange 2016 Giant Reign 11-speed bicycle; a Stihl 291 Chainsaw, and a Mammoth Avalanche bag containing a Tracker 2 avalanche beacon and a Garmin inReach GPS unit.

In the second case, also on Nov. 12, someone smashed open the front glass door of the BC Liquor Store on Glenalder Place.

Surveillance cameras showed the suspect to be a male wearing a black hoodie, red ball cap and white shoes entering the premises while another male wearing a white plaid jacket with green stripes stayed outside.

Liquor was stolen from the business.

This matter is still under investigation.

The third case occurred on Nov. 13.

Officers rushed to Brennan Park Leisure Centre after being told a break-in was happening.

A male allegedly entered the building and was trying to pry open a bank machine with heavy tools.

Police surrounded the building and arrested the suspect.

RCMP say the suspect is well known to officers and had several warrants for his arrest.

The suspect is facing several new charges.

In the final case, also on Nov. 13, someone allegedly broke into the Church on 99 at 1000 Highway 99.

Police say a mattress, blanket, pillow and a laptop were located inside the premises suggesting that a person might have used the location to sleep at night.

The complainant encountered the suspect the following day at the church. The suspect admitted to entering the building without permission at night.
