Drugs, warrants, arrests
A driver and a passenger in a vehicle were were arrested for drug possession and breach of probation on Jan. 16.
The arrests were made in Britannia Beach after police responded to a report of suspicious people in a vehicle.
Police say officers stopped the vehicle and saw drugs on the centre console.
RCMP say the driver of the vehicle was prohibited from driving, the passenger was breaching his probation and another passenger who was found outside of the vehicle nearby was wanted for failing to attend court.
The driver and a passenger were arrested for drug possession and breach of probation, but the passenger outside of the vehicle allegedly fled into the woods to avoid being arrested on the outstanding warrants.
Attempts were made to find the outstanding passenger using a police dog, but he managed to evade capture. Police have not yet arrested the man, but are looking for him.
Break and enter
RCMP say tools were stolen from a work truck associated with a business on Cheakamus Way on Jan. 15.
Police believe someone climbed a fence, entered a yard and stole a toolbox from the back of that truck.
Several vehicles were also broken into on Cheakamus Place and Tantalus Way.
Insurance papers and personal items were stolen in those cases.
Officers say it’s likely the same suspect is responsible for those incidents.
CRA Scam
Squamish RCMP say a Squamish resident was contacted by someone claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency on Jan. 18.
The suspect demanded payment in the form of STEAM digital gift cards for an outstanding tax debt. Several thousand dollars in STEAM gift cards and Bitcoin were sent before the victim realized it was a scam and contacted police.
Police would like to remind everyone that the Canada Revenue Agency does not contact people by phone and demand payment in the form of gift cards, iTunes, Bitcoin, online money transfers, or any other manner. They contact clients by mail and the payment process in place is standardized. If you ever have questions or are suspicious of a phone call you received, please don’t hesitate to contact police prior to sending any money.
Impaired driving
Squamish RCMP responded to a report of a pickup that had driven off the road and into a tree on the Boulevard in the Highlands on Jan. 19.
The driver was witnessed climbing out of the truck and was found standing nearby.
Police say officers suspected the driver had been drinking and tried to check his sobriety.
The driver allegedly began to fight with the officers at scene.
Afterwards, the driver was arrested for impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample and assaulting a police officer.
RCMP allege the suspect later assaulted a paramedic and another police officer, before being taken to jail to sober up. The pickup was seized.
Boy runs into car
A small boy ran into a moving car in a parking lot on Pemberton Avenue and Second Avenue on Jan. 20
Police say the boy was running through the parking lot as the driver of the car was pulling into a parking spot.
The boy ran into the side of the car, causing him to fall.
He was treated for minor injuries.
