VEHICLE VANDALIZED
Damage was done to a vehicle parked on Clarke Road.
Police say the vehicle was parked overnight when the canopy of a truck was damaged.
Officers were informed of the incident on Feb. 19.
RCMP say this is a good reminder to residents of Squamish not to leave valuables in their vehicles and always ensure your vehicle is locked. Squamish RCMP receives a number of thefts from vehicle calls on a regular basis.
BITTER DOUGHNUTS
These doughnuts weren’t the kind you’d want to eat.
On Feb. 20, Squamish RCMP found a gate lock for a Lions Bay school had been cut.
Officers say a vehicle entered the school field overnight and did doughnuts in the snow.
A dark-coloured SUV is believed to be responsible. Damage to the field is still unclear because of the snow covering.
PASSING A SCHOOL BUS
A driver failed to stop for a school bus when its lights were activated on Feb. 21.
Failure to stop for a school bus when the lights are activated can result in a $368 fine and 3 points off your licence.
ELK CROSSING
In Squamish, people don’t ask, ‘Why the chicken crossed the road’ — because it’s elk that try to do most of the crossing here.
Four elk tried to cross Highway 99 at the intersection of Commercial Way on Feb. 22.
Officers went to make sure the elk were a safe distance from the highway.
Squamish RCMP have seen an increase in calls for elk on the highway around Squamish and are wanting to remind the public to keep an eye out for them during travel in the corridor.
SNOWMOBILERS INJURED
Police, ambulance and fire services went to help two injured snowmobilers on Squamish Valley Road, just outside of town on Feb. 24.
RCMP say a snowmobile with two riders had gone off the road into a ditch and both people were injured — one with serious injuries.
The pair was transported to Squamish General Hospital for treatment.
