Arrest for stolen plates

RCMP say an officer stopped a truck and arrested a female driver for alleged used of stolen licence plates, as well as possession of a controlled substance.

Police say that beforehand, an officer on duty was notified of a vehicle which had passed that had stolen plates on it.

The stop was made when Sea to Sky Traffic Services were conducting speed enforcement in Lions Bay with the use of an automated licence plate reader on March 17.

The driver was released on scene via a Promise to Appear as well as Motor Vehicle infractions.  The licence plates had previously been reported stolen from Squamish a few weeks prior.

Vehicle stolen

Police say a vehicle was reported stolen from a Highlands parking lot at 1200 Hunter Place on March 18.

The vehicle was located that afternoon through the vehicle’s OnStar system and was found on Glacier View Drive in the Highlands.

The newer model red Chevrolet Sonic was towed to the Squamish RCMP detachment for the Forensic Identification Section to exam.

Squamish RCMP are requesting anyone who saw that vehicle in the area of the Highlands to contact them.

Snow strands vehicle

A Ford Expedition ran into snow and became stranded on Daisy Lake Road on March 15.

This caused the vehicle to become stuck and required assistance to remove.

RCMP are reminding drivers that the weather may appear to be spring-like and the snow gone in Squamish and surrounding area but at the higher elevations there is still an extensive amount of snow pack and winter driving conditions.

Stolen dirt bike recovered

A resident located a dirt bike under a tarp on Chief Billy Drive on March 15.

RCMP say police were called and when officers arrived, they found the dirt bike was a match to one stolen from a residence on Plateau Drive the previous week.

The Forensic Identification Section were called in to process the bike for evidence.  A red and white kids 50CC dirt bike is still missing from that theft.

Uninsured dirt bike & rider

Squamish RCMP say a green Kawaski dirt biker was driving on a trail off Government Road in Brackendale on March 17.

The driver was identified and issued several tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act and the Off Road Vehicle Act.

As well, the Dirt Bike was towed for no insurance.
