DRUGS SEIZED, ARREST MADE

Police arrested a female who had an outstanding warrant and was allegedly in possession of a controlled substance.

A concerned Squamish resident told police a female was acting “strangely” on Cleveland Avenue on April 20.

The female was released from custody with a court appearance for May 2018.

SUSPICIOUS FIRE

Lions Bay Fire Department reported a suspicious fire under the M Creek Bridge on Highway 99, police say.

Officers found there were two locations which had been lit on fire on April 16.

The first was an area of what appeared to be burnt remnants of tires and other debris. A tree had also caught fire and the burn marks went up 80 feet, officers say.

On the second location was a door to a Honeywell Safe and bolt cutters. The rest of the safe was located 40 feet down an embankment, RCMP say.

CRA SCAM

Squamish resident reported she was defrauded by a telephone scam on April 16, police say.

The complainant stated she received a call from someone claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency and they stated they would get a warrant for her arrest if she didn’t pay a sum of money via iTunes gift cards.

The victim bought the cards and provided the numbers to the scammers.

Squamish RCMP have received a large number of complaints about these type of scams where callers request payment via BitCoin, Steam cards, iTunes Cards, etc.

RCMP wants to inform the public that the CRA does not solicit payment via these methods.

If you receive a call like this please contact police or you can report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca

STRANDED HIKERS

Squamish RCMP received a call from two hikers from Vancouver who had gone up the Sea to Sky Gondola and had missed the last Gondola run down on April 23.

The hikers were concerned for their safety and contacted the police.

Officers guided the hikers to the appropriate trails and Search and Rescue was advised.

The duo made it to safety in the early morning.

Squamish RCMP receives a number of these calls over the year and would like to inform tourists and residents that the last Gondola down is set and if you miss it you will be required to find an alternate walking route down.

Check maps for these alternate route locations and know the time the last gondola goes down, police say.

HOT DOGS

Squamish Animal Control reported to RCMP that two dogs were in distress in a vehicle April 20.

A veterinarian attended to assist with the dogs, which were removed from the vehicle.

The owner was issued multiple bylaw tickets.

Squamish RCMP would like to remind the public to leave their pets at home during warm weather.

Vehicle temperatures rise quickly in warm sunny weather even with windows open and pets can go into distress quickly.
