Drugs seized
Drugs and related evidence were seized when Squamish RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in the 37700 block of Third Avenue on Monday, March 7, according to the police report.
Charges have not been laid, and the investigation is ongoing.
Suspect in liquor store B&E
The BC Liquor Store in the 40400 block Glenalder Place was broken into on Saturday, March 12. Four bottles of tequila were stolen, police said. Video surveillance showed a man approximately 5 feet 6 inches with a medium build, wearing a red-hooded jacket, running out of the store through a broken, front-door window, according to Squamish RCMP. A rock was used to break the door glass, police said.
An investigation is ongoing.
Cars on fire
Two vehicles were set ablaze in separate incidents on Thursday, March 10, police said.
In the first incident, an older Ford van with Newfoundland registration was engulfed in flames at Nexen Beach and was then doused by the fire department, RCMP said. The owner of the van was found walking away from the vehicle and did not provide any explanation for why his vehicle was on fire, according to police.
The second car fire occurred after a car with Washington State registration slid off Garibaldi Park Road and rolled 25 metres down a steep embankment, police said. It is not clear why it caught fire. The two occupants were not injured, police said.
House break-in
Items worth roughly $3,000 were stolen in a break and enter at a house in the 4000 block of Highway 99 overnight on Saturday, March 12, according to an RCMP report.
A window had been smashed to unlock the door, police said.
Stolen items included an Apple TV box, a Samsung 51” Plasma HDTV, numerous tools including a Hatatchi dual tank air compressor, a Stanley pancake compressor, a Dewalt 12" compound mitre saw, a Dewalt table saw, a Dewalt chop saw and a 6000 Diesel Generator, police reported.
No one was home during the robbery, according to the RCMP.
Computer theft in B&E
An Apple Macbook Air and a Canadian passport were stolen from a basement suite in the 40700 block of Thunderbird Ridge the morning of Thursday, March 10, police said. The victim became aware of the theft while at work when she received emails from Apple that her personal passwords were changed, police said.
Police found the rear sliding glass door of the suite unlocked.
Using another computer, the victim tracked the stolen Macbook to a location in the Lower Mainland, Squamish RCMP said. The investigation is ongoing.
Suspicious chemicals found
An environmental clean-up is currently underway after a police officer found roughly 50 buckets of suspicious liquid and solid substances near the top of Furry Creek Hill on Sunday, March 13, according to RCMP. The investigation showed the chemicals were not left over from a clandestine drug laboratory, police said. Further investigation into the chemicals is underway.
Excessive speed
A driver’s car was impounded and the driver was given a ticket for excessive speed and driving contrary to restrictions on Monday, March 7, police said.
The penalties were given after a vehicle travelling southbound on Highway 99 from Commercial Drive was clocked at 120km/h in a 70km/h zone, RCMP said. The driver was also in violation of the conditions of his licence, police said.
Just a dummy
The police department received a report of a possible dead body in a grassy area near Stawamus Elementary School on Saturday, March 12, but officers found a mannequin at the base of a knoll off Clarke Drive near the fire hall.
Police confirmed the dummy was being used by firefighters as part of a Squamish youth fire academy training exercise taking place at the fire hall.
