Firearms turned in
A Squamish resident was asked and willingly relinquished two shotguns, two rifles and ammunition on Friday Jan. 22, RCMP said. The request was in connection to an uttering threats file at the Comox RCMP Detachment, according to police.
RCMP are not recommending additional charges in relation to the seizure.
Apartment break-in
A possible suspect has been identified and an investigation continues after police received a report of a possible break-in at an apartment in the 37800 block of Cleveland Avenue on Friday, Jan. 22.
A neighbour heard banging on a door, came outside and saw a man running away, according to police. The suspect did not enter the unit.
The suspect is described as Caucasian with shoulder-length brown hair, and he was wearing a black shirt with a white emblem. He broke the door handle and glass peephole then fled and was seen by several witnesses, police said.
Wallet, passport stolen
A woman reported her wallet containing $1,000 and a passport from the Philippines were stolen from Valleycliffe Elementary while she was attending a program there, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
B & E interrupted
A suspicious man was reportedly trying doors of a building in the 38200 block of Cleveland Avenue on Saturday, Jan. 23, police reported. He was seen leaving in a northbound direction into the bushes.
Although the suspect did not get into the building, the south door had been tampered with, police said. Cut copper wires were found on the ground on the east side of the building, according to Squamish RCMP. Patrols of the area and the bushes were made but the suspect was not located.
Items recovered
A stolen dirt bike and weed whacker have been recovered, police said.
The dirt bike was stolen from a truck parked at the Sandman Hotel on Tuesday, Jan. 19, police said. At least one weed whacker was also taken from the hotel’s equipment shed.
The items were recovered from another shed nearby and returned to the owners. To date there is insufficient evidence to recommend any charges of theft, according to Squamish RCMP.
