Man injured in forestry accident
A man working as a tree faller in the Furry Creek area was injured on Monday, Dec. 7 when a large tree branch fell on him, police report. While his injuries seemed serious and he was transported to hospital in Vancouver, he is expected to make a full recovery, Squamish RCMP reported.
The investigation determined that proper safety procedures were followed and there was no evidence of criminal negligence, police said. WorkSafe BC is following up.
Assault at school
A restorative justice proceeding has been initiated after a student assaulted a staff member at a local school on Monday, Dec. 7, RCMP said. Given the age of the student and the circumstances of the incident, restorative justice was the most appropriate resolution, police said.
Driving prohibition
A man received a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded after a crash on Highway 99 at Deeks Creek on Tuesday, Dec. 8, police said.
The driver showed signs of alcohol impairment and failed a breathalyzer test, according to Squamish RCMP.
Man flees police
A man faces charges of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and driving without a license after a driver failed to pull over for police at Government Road and Centennial Way on Wednesday, Dec. 9, according to Squamish RCMP. Instead of stopping, the driver took off on Government Road, approaching the school zone at a high speed, police reported. He turned into a residential area off of Mamquam Road, abandoned the car and ran away. An officer was able to catch up and intercept the suspect.
Horse on the loose
A horse was wandering around on the Squamish Golf Course on Friday, Dec. 11 and police determined the horse had escaped from a property across the street. Police assisted in the safe return of the horse.
Impaired and speeding
A driver was arrested for impaired driving after a speeding vehicle was stopped on Highway 99 just north of Cleveland Avenue on Saturday, Dec. 12, police said. The driver showed signs of being impaired and failed the roadside test, RCMP said.
The driver had recently received an immediate roadside prohibition, so a breathalyzer test was administered. A criminal charge of impaired driving is being recommended as a result of the breathalyzer test results.
Cram the cruiser
Squamish RCMP members and staff participated in the fourth annual Cram the Cruiser event on Saturday, Dec. 12 in the parking lot at Nesters Market. Donations of food, cash and gifts were collected for Community Christmas Care to be donated to families in need.
