The two were not experienced in paddling on moving water and had flipped their kayaks on the opposite shore when they were trying to access the trail to Echo Lake, police said. Their green kayaks, paddles and gear, which had floated downstream, were retrieved.

Boaters call for help
Police were called to investigate an overturned boat on Thursday, May 12. The boat was near Highway 99 and the Mamquam River highway overpass. The initial concern was that someone might have drowned, but while the police were on scene, the boat owners arrived and said that they were on the boat when it flipped and were uninjured.
The owners were unable to retrieve their boat, however. Because of the current, the blue and yellow boat remains stuck on a logjam, according to Squamish RCMP. Since this initial call, police have received numerous calls about this matter from concerned Squamish residents.
