On Monday, Jan. 4, a citizen turned in a sum of money found at Nexen Beach on New Year’s Day to the Squamish RCMP. Police are investigating to determine the owner of the cash.

 

Rollover crash

Speed may be responsible for a single-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 99 north of Brohm Lake on Tuesday, Jan. 5, RCMP said.  A southbound SUV lost control, spun around, crossed the centre line and ended up in the ditch on the northbound side, according to police. 

Two northbound vehicles swerved to avoid a head-on collision. The rollover driver was not seriously injured, according to police.

 

Vehicle clocks 130 km/h

A vehicle was impounded after police clocked it reaching speeds of over 130 km/h in an 80 km/h zone northbound on Highway 99 near Lions Bay on Thursday, Jan. 7.  The vehicle was also seen driving erratically, according to police. Squamish RCMP stopped the vehicle at Britannia Beach, where the driver received a ticket for excessive speed. The vehicle was impounded, police said.

 

Impaired driving charges

A man is facing charges of impaired driving and driving while suspended after Squamish officers stopped a vehicle on Government Road at Centennial Way on Saturday, Jan. 9.  The driver said he did not have a driver's license, according to Squamish RCMP. Police said they could smell liquor inside the vehicle, but the driver refused to take a roadside breath test. The man was read the Breath Demand and taken to the detachment, where he later provided a sample.

 

Porteau Cove break-in

An outbuilding at the Porteau Cove campground was broken into, likely through the main door, sometime overnight on Thursday, Jan. 7, police report. The culprit cut wires and may have attempted to steal copper wire although none was missing, police reported.

 

Bike theft suspected

Police received a report of a man riding a stolen bike on Garibaldi Way at Tantalus Way on Thursday, Jan. 7. Police intercepted the man and the bike was seized for investigation.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, a charge may be recommended, according to police.
