Gas station B&E
The Shell Gas Station on Highway 99 was broken into during the early hours of Sunday, May 22, Squamish RCMP said.
A thief stole bottles of pop and bags of potato chips, said police, who describe the suspect as a man who was dressed in all black and had his face covered. The investigation is ongoing.
Pellet gun found
A pellet gun was found at an Alice Lake campsite on Wednesday, May 18. A park ranger found the gun leaning against a table at a camping spot. The ranger called the Squamish RCMP, who seized the pellet gun.
Squamish RCMP said the number of complaints of campers leaving unattended pellet guns in their campsites has increased.
Car break-in
A white Apple iPhone 6 was stolen from a 2011 Subaru Outback that was parked on the Mamquam River Forestry Service Road and Highway 99 on Wednesday, May 18. The car’s passenger side window was smashed, but nothing else was taken from the vehicle, according to police. The matter is under investigation.
Bike found
Police are seeking the owner of a grey and silver Diamond Back Discovery DB 78 bike that was found by a Squamish resident at the Brandywine Provincial Park near Whistler, Squamish RCMP said. The resident brought the bicycle to the Squamish detachment on Tuesday, May 17, police said. The serial number was checked but the bicycle has not been reported stolen or lost, according to police.
Theft of scooter
An electric scooter was taken from a resident’s unlocked garage on Diamond Head Road on Sunday, May 15 sometime between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., RCMP said. The scooter is valued at approximately $1,100.
Asleep in vehicle
Police found a person sleeping inside a vehicle parked at the Squamish Adventure Centre parking lot on Thursday, May 19. Squamish RCMP say they are responding to an increase in calls about people sleeping in their vehicles in the parking lot, despite the fact that there has been additional signage stating no overnight camping there as per the District of Squamish bylaw.
Counterfeit bill
A local Starbucks was given a counterfeit US$20 on Friday, May 20 with the serial number #MB34036556F. Police checks have confirmed that the bill has been used five other times in the Lower Mainland, Squamish RCMP said.
