Police foil poachers

RCMP were called to the dike Sunday afternoon (Feb. 5) to deal with four individuals and some apparently illegal firearms.Squamish Cpl. Dave Ritchie said members of the Conservation Service had called to report that some men were discharging firearms.

Three males were seen in a canoe on the water and one on shore. After the initial call, the three in the canoe overturned, and one was swept downstream by the current. The male was rescued by local Search and Rescue and was treated for hypothermia.All four were detained, but as the quartet consisted of three youths and an older man - all from Vancouver, the latter was charged.Ritchie said RCMP were recommending charges of illegal hunting and firearm usage.

Passenger ejected in rollover

The passenger of a 2002 Acura was thrown from the vehicle when it went off the highway Monday night (Feb. 6).

According to Ritchie, the vehicle with six passengers was southbound on Hwy. 99 at about 5:30 p.m. when the driver apparently lost control, sending the vehicle careening across two lanes of oncoming traffic just north of Depot Road. The thrown passenger who wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

The five who remained in the car were examined and released with minor injuries, while the sixth remains in hospital.The driver of the vehicle was given a violation ticket for the accident.

Two assault man on bicycle

RCMP are seeking information about two males who tried to assault a cyclist with a weapon in an alley behind Hudson House on Feb. 4 at 8:30 p.m.

No injury was sustained and RCMP now hope the public can help in identifying the suspects.

One of the men is heavy set, 5'11", with shoulder length straight brown hair and a black thin moustache. The second suspect is 6'2", slim with thick glasses and no facial hair. Anyone with information is asked to call the local detachment.
