Police investigated a dispute between two roommates in the 38800 block of Buckley Avenue on Saturday, Jan. 16, which escalated to the point that one struck the other with a pan, RCMP reported. The victim did not appear to have any injuries and he did not wish to pursue criminal charges so the two men were separated for the night, police said.

 

Scam alert

A Britannia Beach woman is out $2,500 after she received a telephone call on Tuesday, Jan. 12, from a man claiming to work for the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), according to Squamish RCMP. The man told the woman she owed $5,000 in taxes and threatened her with police involvement and jail.

The victim went to Western Union as the caller directed and sent $2,500, police said.

The caller’s numbers were 613-927-9872 and 1-800-267-6999, according to police. CRA officials confirmed this is a common scam. Anyone receiving suspicious communication from CRA should contact CRA before following any instructions.

Mercedes clocked at 170 km/h

RCMP conducting speed enforcement at various locations on Highway 99 impounded three vehicles for speeding, on Friday, Jan. 15.

In one case, a Mercedes-Benz sports car was clocked at 170 km/h in a 90 km/h speed zone in the Furry Creek area, according to police.

 

Jeep lands in ditch

A motorist called Squamish RCMP to report a Jeep Compass in the ditch on Highway 99 at Depot Road shortly after 4 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16. A man believed to be the driver spoke to the motorist. He appeared uninjured but possibly intoxicated and asked the motorist not to call anyone, according to the police report. He then ran off before police arrived. Police believe the Jeep was northbound and crossed over the southbound lanes, ending up in the ditch on the southbound side.   

   

Prohibited driving charge

A man faces charges of driving while prohibited and obstruction and his vehicle was impounded on Sunday, Jan. 17 after police officers attended 1140 Hunter Place for a report of suspicious vehicles being driven dangerously in the parking lot. The driver of one of the vehicles provided the identification of a relative, but police report they discovered his true identity and that he was a prohibited driver.  

 

Copper wire theft

Two spools of copper wire were stolen overnight on Thursday, Jan. 14 from a work vehicle parked at the Sandman Hotel parking lot, according to police. The investigation is on going. 

 

Graffiti tags at school

Several incidents of “tagging” in graffiti were reported at Brackendale Elementary School and Cedar Valley Waldorf School on Friday Jan. 15, police said. The tags were: “Big P,” “Slayer” and “Zombie.” Photographs were taken of the tags and the investigation continues, police said.
