A routine RCMP patrol resulted in the arrest of two local men in a stolen jeep.

Cst. John Marinis of the Squamish RCMP detachment reported that an RCMP member cruising along Buckley Avenue Feb. 15 observed two suspicious males sitting in a vehicle. A quick check of the jeep's plates revealed they had been reported stolen from a similar model vehicle.

The member quickly moved in and arrested the two local men, aged 37 and 25.

The jeep, with its ignition "punched out" and front console pried open, was also discovered to have been stolen out of Vancouver. The men were charged with two counts of stolen property and will make their first appearances in court on April 19.

Three vehicles in accident

Alcohol and speed were factors in a three-vehicle accident on Hwy 99 on Feb. 17, according to RCMP.

At about 11:53 a.m., police said a southbound minivan entered the northbound lane of the highway between Britannia Beach and Furry Creek. Upon entering the opposite lane of traffic, the minivan grazed a small white tour bus, spinning out of control and ending up in the northbound lane, where it was "t-boned" by a blue Toyota sedan.

Two people in the sedan were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

RCMP are still investigating the accident and charges are pending.

Same day, another three-car accident

A separate three-vehicle accident occurred almost three hours later at Porteau Cove, reported Cst. Marinis.

According to reports, a northbound BMW was stopped by a construction flag person right before Porteau Cove. A Ford Focus stopped just behind the BMW, as well, but a black SUV traveling behind the Ford failed to halt. Instead, it "plowed" into the Ford, which, in turn, smashed into the BMW.

A mother and two children in the Focus were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, but the car itself sustained a lot of damage.

The driver of the SUV was charged with driving without undue care.

RCMP are reminding motorists to exercise more diligence when traveling in construction zones.

Gun stolen from home

A handgun was one of the items reported stolen from a home on Buckley Avenue Feb. 17, according to RCMP.

Cst. Marinis reported the owner of the home had been away for two weeks. Upon his return, he discovered his house had apparently been broken into and a vintage handgun with paperwork was missing.

Police are investigating the incident and ask anyone with information on this or any other crime to call the local RCMP detachment.
