Last Friday (March 2), police busted a marijuana grow operation at a home in the Paradise Valley north of Squamish.
In the morning of March 2, Squamish RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in the 4000 block of Midnight Way. An estimated 200 plants were seized, along with a number of bags full of harvested plants, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride said.
A 43-year-old male and 42-year-old female, both local residents, were arrested in relation to the investigation. The two face charges of production of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking. Neither held medical marijuana permits, Pride said.
"We are not going to target legal locations," Pride said.
Two youth under the age of 19 were also residing at the location, Pride said. Police found evidence of a large grow operation before it was harvested, he said, noting a pound of bulk, ready-to-sell marijuana and hydroponic grow equipment was discovered.
"We did find evidence that they were processing [marijuana] for sale," he said.
The individuals have been released. Police are recommending that charges be laid and it's up to Crown counsel to decide whether that will occur, Pride said.
