Woodfibre LNG’s American president Anthony Gelotti left his post Nov. 15 at the end of his two-year contract and has returned home in Texas.

The company’s vice-president of corporate affairs, Byng Giraud, said in an interview that the departure is part of the project’s evolution. “He came to the end of his two-year contract and we had reached a milestone position in the project where the work he’d been retained for has been completed,” Giraud said in an online interview. “We’re moving past our environmental assessment process and moving towards [final investment decision] and construction.”

Recruitment for a new president has not yet begun, Giraud said.

The liquefied natural gas facility proposed for Squamish was granted a provincial environmental certificate Oct. 26 but has yet to receive federal approval.
