Private school registration open

Students enrolling from as far away as North Shore, CMA official says

Squamish's newest independent school is taking names for its opening year.

Classes for Coast Mountain Academy (CMA) are slated to start this fall on the Quest University campus. CMA officials promise smaller class sizes, longer class periods and cross-curricular learning opportunities for Grades 7 to 10 students, extending up to Grade 12 in subsequent years.

Families enrolling children in the first year will have a unique opportunity to help shape the future of the school, founding faculty member Bradley Gooderham said in a statement.

Through fundraising efforts, CMA is in a position to offer a bursary and scholarship program, said the school's head, David Baird.

"This is something that we have always been pursuing and we are pleased to now be able to commit some financial assistance to eligible students in our first year," he said.

The academy has received applications from families on the North Shore, Bowen Island, throughout the Sea to Sky Corridor and beyond, Baird stated. School officials have also interviewed teachers who share CMA officials' vision for education, the academy's founder Geoff Park stated.

"[The teachers] will certainly bring a wealth of experience and knowledge of their own," he said.
