Mayor Ian Sutherland said the money is "very much appreciated," noting it might be put in part toward downtown banners.The province is increasing unconditional grants to local governments, providing $1,143,697 this year to small communities and the regional district in the Sea to Sky Corridor, MLA Joan McIntyre said in an announcement on Monday (May 26). "We recognize that smaller size communities require assistance for some of the basic community amenities and we are pleased to be able to assist," she said.These grants for the Sea to Sky Corridor help communities with small tax bases fund basic municipal services.The grants are part of a series of programs available to local governments to help provide services and infrastructure. This includes annual Traffic Fine Revenue Sharing, Local Motion, Towns for Tomorrow and B.C. Spirit Squares funding, as well as the Green City Awards.
