After more than 11 years with the paper, Chief publisher Tim Shoults is on the move to B.C.'s Interior as publisher of the Kamloops Daily News at the end of this month.

Glacier Media, the parent company of The Chief and the Daily News, announced Shoults's appointment to staff on Monday (July 12). His last day at the paper will be July 29 and he will start his new duties Aug. 3.

Shoults came to The Chief from Jasper, Alta. in 1998 as the paper's editor. He became editor and publisher in 2001 and served in both positions until 2005, when he became publisher and regional manager for other Glacier newspapers, starting with the Whistler Question and adding the Bridge River-Lillooet News, Sunshine Coast Reporter and the Merritt News over the past five years.

Under his tenure, The Chief has won more than a dozen awards from the Canadian Community Newspapers Association (CCNA) and the B.C. and Yukon Community Newspapers Association (BCYCNA), including several awards for Best Overall Paper in B.C. and in Canada. Shoults was voted Business Person of the Year by the membership of the Squamish Chamber of Commerce in 2007.

"My family and I are excited for the new opportunity in Kamloops but also sad to leave Squamish," Shoults said. "This is an amazing community and I have enjoyed every moment of my nearly 12 years here.

"Thankfully we have a very talented team at The Chief and I leave here knowing that the community will continue to enjoy an award-winning newspaper for many years to come. I look forward to keeping up on Squamish through www.squamishchief.com."
