Pursuit turns into foot chase

A 31-year-old Squamish man led police on a chase through the North Yards and Downtown area on Monday (March 21).Cpl. Ritchie said the incident started when a member of the RCMP intercepted a 1985 Nissan 300 ZX traveling quickly on Queens way near Government Road.

A pursuit was initiated just before 2 p.m. and the suspect vehicle led police to the emergency access road linking Government Road to Bailey Street.

Ritchie said the vehicle was abandoned on the emergency road and the pursuit continued on foot. The driver was caught on Firth Avenue some time later.

There was a passenger in the car. Ritchie said the passenger was a hitchhiker.

The driver was held overnight and appeared in court Tuesday morning (March 22). Ghyslain Noel is facing four charges relating to the incident and he was scheduled to make a second court appearance on Thursday (March 24).
