A Quest University professor has won a prestigious national award.
Glen Van Brummelen, mathematics curriculum coordinator and founding professor (called tutors at Quest), won a 2017 3M Teaching Fellowship, it was announced Friday. Van Brummelen is the first faculty member from Quest to earn this award, according to a news release from the university.
The honour is bestowed on 10 university and college professors from across Canada each year for their excellence in classroom teaching and their leadership in education, the release states.
In November, Van Brummelen will head to Montebello, Q.C. with fellow winners for a four-day teaching and learning retreat.
Van Brummelen’s “mantra is ‘I don’t teach mathematics; I teach students,’” the release states. “His approach is warm and open, and he is phenomenally sensitive to the perspectives needed for the appropriate development of mathematics in the lives of our students.”
