Rainfall warning issued for Squamish

The old B.C. saying is that we aren't sugar so shouldn't be afraid to go out in the rain, but today may be an exception. Environment Canada has issued a rain warning for Sunday into Monday.

The old B.C. saying is that we aren't sugar so shouldn't be afraid to go out in the rain, but today may be an exception. Environment Canada has issued a rain warning for Sunday into Monday.

A moisture-laden frontal system continues to move across the south coast today with 60 to 90 mm of rain expected to fall by Monday before the front weakens and exits the area.

Rainfall alerts are issued when 25 mm or more of rain is expected within one hour.

"Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible," the weather alert reads.

Environment Canada recommends checking drainage around the house to reduce the possibility of basement flooding after a heavy rain.

On the plus side, rain in Squamish means the white stuff up in the alpine.

About 15 to 20 cm of snow is expected today in Whistler.
