RCMP seek help in sexual assault investigation

RCMP is asking the public's help in identifying a suspect in the brutal sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl. On Monday (Jan. 18), the girl hitched a ride with a man in a pick up truck on Highway 1 near Taylor Way at 9:50 p.m.

On Monday (Jan. 18), the girl hitched a ride with a man in a pick up truck on Highway 1 near Taylor Way at 9:50 p.m.

The driver proceeded north on Highway 99 until just south of Squamish where he pulled over and assaulted then sexually assaulted the teenager.

She was then thrown out of the vehicle with her belongings, as the suspect sped off.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, in his late 20s to mid 30s male with a two-day beard growth, short, buzz-cut brownish hair, bushy eyebrows with long eyelashes, brown eyes, wearing a long sleeve white T-shirt with black sleeves, and brown work pants.

The suspect's vehicle is described as a navy blue or black late model pick up truck with extended cab with 4 X 4 sticker on the rear passenger side.

The truck has large tires and running boards with a silver lining on the top side of the box, beige leather interior, in dirty and dusty condition with a coffee mug and running shoes on passenger side floor.

Anyone with information on the suspect or the vehicle description is asked to contact Squamish RCMP at 604 892-6100.

Callers do not need to provide a name, address or telephone number, and will not be expected to testify in court.

A cash reward of up to $2,000 will be paid for any information that leads to an arrest and charge.
